Broadway set to tell the tale of Magic and Bird

Yahoo! News: Showtime is about to have a whole new meaning for Magic Johnson. The story of the NBA Hall of Famer's rivalry and friendship with Larry Bird is coming to Broadway in "Magic/Bird," set to open in April. The two consulted in its production, and Johnson can't wait to watch their story told. His "Showtime" Lakers of the 1980s were a Hollywood hit, and now he's ready to see his name in Broadway's lights.

I am so thrilled to see this show making its way to Broadway. I was skeptical when I saw this producing team's first show, "Lombardi," but wound up enjoying it immensely. Just as sports-folk could do to know more about theatre (this is not to say that the two categories are mutually exclusive), this is a great way to teach theatre-folk a thing or two about sports. I enjoy watching the super bowl that much more now that I know more about the man behind the Vince Lombardi trophy, and I don't think I would have ever learned about him had the play not been put on. I hope that Magic/Bird will be just as successful, and it's great to see both the ex-players and the NBA showing their support for the project.
