'Billy Elliott' brings flair to classic tale at Benedum

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: The story is familiar. A young boy being raised by his coal miner father discovers his place in the world is at the ballet barre. Will he get to study at the Royal Ballet School in London or follow the path of his working-class father and older brother?

First off, while I have never seen this show, I truly would loven to see this as my next Broadway show. From seeing the designs and stills from this production, I can say that it appears to be a truly stunning piece of theater. In terms of the story, I feel that this is a timeless one. It tells the audience to do what they want and be themselves, not to do or be something society wants them to be and shows the effect of intolerance on a person. This is a particularly crucial message at this time in history because of everything with civil rights and genocide. I can honestly say that this is a production I plan on seeing while it is here in Pittsburgh.

I really loved this show, and am hoping i'll get the chance to see it while i'm here. At first I hadn't wanted to see it, but in the end it was a really impressive product. The choreography was really superb, the design fit the show, and I was especially impressed by the lighting. Totally did deserve a lot of the Tony Awards that it won (I originally didn't like it simply because it was such a juggernaut, which I know is unfair). Anyway, I realize this tour will be tuned down, so I'm interested to see what is changed, and what adjustments they had to make.

I have never seen this show and really knew nothing about it until reading this. The article definitely sells the show well and makes it seem like a must see. The design and production seem to be quite special and i am sure the performance is just as spectacular. This would be a potentially great show to see on tour - it did win some Tony's. The plot of the show seems to be universal which is always good for a wide audience. The show seems to be stellar, I hope to see it.
