‘Next Fall’ Tries to Do Broadway on a Budget

NYTimes.com: "Rather than use the costly automated system of some big-budget shows, the crew for the new Broadway play “Next Fall” manually slides pieces of its set into place for different scenes. An actor even helps out, at one point carrying a table across the stage. Expensive scrims were considered but cut, and there has been no all-out advertising blitz of the kind that heralds some new productions."

I think that if 'Next Fall' succeeds, they will set an example for a change that is desperately needed. Unfortunately it is true that if you want a show to be financially successful, you have to put a famous name in the cast. "Next Fall"'s off-broadway success will hopefully transfer over to broadway, proving that story and acting is more important than the name on the bill. I hope that I will be able to see this show in New York, and that it will still be around when I get there.
