5 Reasons why we shouldn't have gotten rid of Special Theatrical Event this season.
PRODUCER’S PERSPECTIVE: "Immediately following last year's Tony Awards, the Admin Committee decided to strike the 'Special Theatrical Event' Tony from the list of trophies that it would hand out in the future."

This article raised a very good point about how certain shows or performances while just as good as a full fledged show, just lack the scale or focus necessary to compete against full fledged plays. The article recommended the idea of a "as needed" category, and given that there probably are not always worthy reciprocants of this more niche' award this idea could really work out quite well.
