Boingboing, a geek-news website that I try and keep up with, has recently been featuring luminescent clothing on their website, and I'm really quite surprised that this wasn't linked.

I really love the idea of mixing new technology and media into something as tried and true as textile making, and the limitless possibilities of a colour-changing article of clothing fascinates me. On stage, a costume could all together snap with the lighting and create a completely new look, no need for a quick change and a blackout to get the job done. I look forward to seeing this bit of tech honed and brought to prominence in either the fashion or theatre world soon.

Beautiful! I love that new technology can afford us, not even advancements in practical industrial design which is what Core77 usually focuses on, but things like light reactive fabric. You could make such amazing costumes that progressively throughout the show, reveal a new look in different lights. I could imagine this kind of fabric to really benefit fashion designers like Thierry Mugler and Alexander Wang because it could afford them the option to make their characteristic over the top flashy luminescent pieces without using a heavier alternative and without having to weigh down their models. With this fabric, so many runway looks can become more practical for everyday clothing because they're not as extravagant and can now achieve the same effect in a light fabric.
