The Year of Leading Ladies on the London Stage

New York Times: "The fairer sex flourished on the London stage in 2006 in what is beginning to resemble a far larger trend. Already, in the film world there has been considerable attention paid to the quality and breadth of potential Academy Award nominees for best actress, starting with two British dames, Helen Mirren and Judi Dench. So it should not be too surprising that the British theater - where Mirren and Dench began their careers and to which they often return - annually makes ample room for women, if not always to the dazzling degree seen in 2006."
