Opera director has a word in audience's ear

Tennessean.com: "In what is a first for any professional opera organization, Nashville Opera will provide a director's commentary — downloadable for free via Apple's iTunes site or the Nashville Opera Web site — that viewers will be able to synchronize with live performances of Romeo and Juliet during the last two shows of the opera's run, on Feb. 2 and 3."

I would be avoiding those last two shows like the plague...unless I, too, planned to sit through the entire performance (after seeing it once already, I'm sure) with a pair of headphones and a glazed look on my face.

Who'd want to sit in the middle of an audience who's responding to everything but what's being presented to them in the space?

What ever happened to reading the director's notes during intermission?

Nashville Opera's really counting on a large population of theater goers to be so incredibly fascinated by the direction of the opera when they first see it that they're going to shell out the cash for another ticket so they can have the convenience of a synchronized viewing.
