I’m glad to see that the diversity in television directors is increasing. Movies and staged productions remain influential areas where it’s important to see a diverse representation; however, we as a society consume a huge amount of television and episodic series, much greater in volume (typically) than the other two. We are so highly influenced by what we see, making it so important that the diversity of this society be mirrored in those who create what influences us. While it’s nice to see these stats go up for minorities, what I honestly appreciate the most is the tone of this article. It’s nice to see both this article and the Directors Guild president being fully aware that progress does not indicate or equal solution. Most of these statistic increases are minor at levels of 1 to 2% or just a handful of episodes; yes it’s changing but it is far from changed.
