Well I see that Congress is trying but still falling short of getting it right. It doesn’t protect performer payment for radio play. That is a big deal especially in light of all these digital radio stations, like Sirius XM (who is opposed to the bill). I mean, come on, was it so hard to include that in the bill? Clearly someone is in the pocket of Sirius XM. As an artist, I want paid for my work. I am not spending all this time learning and perfecting my craft to have it used however by whomever and not getting proper credit for it. And if you use my work in a digital format, I want paid for that too (in this case the radio) because regardless of how you are doing so, you are still playing it on a media platform. I would bet that Sirius dislikes the bill because it would cut into their profit margin. Oh well. I still want to get paid for my work regardless of how you use it.

It makes me happy that our current administration is helping out the music industry. When ou current president was elected I remember the fear of the arts community when Trump said that he was going to cut arts funding by a huge margin. This painted Mr. President in a light where he did not shine fondly in the eyes of artist and creators. But with the passing of this bill, is a groundbreaking achievement for any positions in the music industry, makes the art community not as fearful for their careers during this scary presidency. I really like how this was a bipartisan bill. No one was polarized and they all realized that musicians in all parts of the industry deserve equal pay for their work and heir work should be protected. This bill is a great step in the right direction, and I appreciate it and it is so important, but why can we see the need for a bill that guarantees equal pay and protects the work of woman. I don’t like how hard it is to protect women’s rights but the music industry (still a male dominated industry) can be protected so swiftly.
