Reactive super-speed electromagnet dot display for Perception on TNT

breakfastny.com: For TNT's newest crime-solving show Perception we revived a sign technology of yesteryear to create an anagram-finding experience on the streets of New York. Made up of over 40,000 physical dots spinning from black to white at 15 times faster than originally designed to, the screen not only reflects back a unique image of anyone walking by, but allows you to actually hear those movements thanks to its mechanical nature.

Despite the fact that the dot display is essentially a huge TV ad, the technology involved is still quite impressive. It's interesting that the creators decided to use the physically flipping two-sided dots to make the screen instead of going straight to what I would think to be more typical -- a digital screen -- though of course the sound aspect of the exhibit was more easily achieved with the dots. All the same, I would wager that kind of sensory and reactive technology will grow and become more common in the future, as can even be seen by just looking at some of BREAKFAST's other projects.
