Designing a Desert Landscape in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park
Disney Parks Blog: Cars Land has been open for just over a month now and many of our you have commented on our beautiful landscaping. It’s almost its own attraction! Our landscape architects really outdid themselves as they researched and designed just the right planting palette to add beauty and detail to Radiator Springs. And of course they also were concerned with providing appropriate trees to provide shade and comfort for our guests.

The imagineers have really out done themselves this time with the amount of work they've done for the new attraction, but it clearly pays off in the long run. A great lesson can be learned here about how good research can make a show, but great research can make a whole new world. I really hope that new designers learn to spend just as much time, if not more, on research as they do on other processes.
This attraction is a lesson in detail. The Imagineers made sure to do everything down to landscaping to ensure the realism of Cars Land. This attention to detail is extremely impressive, and carries over to the theatre. Every part of each department researches and prepares and produces authentic works in order to immerse the viewer in the world they create for them. Dramturgs and designers work hard to do what the Imagineers have done, and every time a show sucks you in they've done it just right.
The fact that so much effort into creating something so natural baffles me. The amazing work that not only went into not only the research, but also the placement of the different plants in the park is admirable and awe-inspiring. I greatly admire and appreciate the amount of time and effort that must have done into the construction. Congratulations Disney on creating another place in which we can lose ourselves!
I have always thought Walt Disney Imagineering is fascinating. These are people whose job is basically to create a walk/ride through set. As with all of the environments they create, I think the one they did here for cars is really well done. Its obvious the amount of time and careful research they put into recreating an environment that many people who visit will know quite accurately. That’s another thing that’s so interesting about their designs. Half of the time they are doing a completely made up environment where the emphasis is on the dreaming up of the place, but other times, like here, they are recreating someplace that actually exists, but putting their Disney spin on it. I look forward to taking a trip to Disneyland and getting to see this environment myself.
