Taylor Swift Wears Bob Mackie’s Bejeweled Designs for ‘Life of a Showgirl’
The New York Times: Ahead of the Friday release of Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” the singer teased it by sharing imagery of her dressing the part in jewels, feathers and a towering headdress. I love how this article shows the way fashion history comes full circle. Reading about Taylor Swift bringing back a vintage Bob Mackie showgirl costume feels like a way of honoring and celebrating performance, fashion, and art across generations. Mackie’s designs have always been larger than life, and it’s amazing how they still hold so much power and sparkle decades later. What really stands out to me is how younger artists like Taylor, Zendaya, and Miley are rediscovering that sense of spectacle and glamour. The way they bring it back feels nostalgic, but also completely new. It shows how timeless great costume design can be. It doesn’t just decorate the performer, it transforms them. The fact that Mackie was surprised yet delighted by Taylor using his work makes it even sweeter. It’s like a bridge between eras, where old school showgirl spirit meets modern pop storytelling in the most dazzling way.
