Something I really agree with is the quote about how we need to not only show what we are against but demonstrate what we are for. I think we spend a lot of time thinking and talking about work that speaks out against what we do not like. And that is so incredibly important we need aggressive in your face rebellion stories. However I think this is a really important statement. I often struggle with really aggressive messages in shows because I know that they put people on their defense and people on their defense are not as open to change. I think demonstrating what the world could look like is a really good “in”. I think sometimes people have a hard time picturing the alternative and I think that is where the arts really have a lot of power. We have the ability to show people and let them experience it.
America Ferrera is one of my favorite actors, and she is also an actress who does not step down from fighting for equality and standing up for what she believes in. I completely agree with America’s stance on how art and artists have such a strong voice and powerful position to jumpstart change and ignite people to stand up and be inspired, and have the hope and confidence to stand up for themselves and others. Art is a huge reason why people stand up and fight for what they believe in and demand change. I loved how America was stating that not only art and artists were have the ability to spark change, but that we also that we have an obligation to use our voices and that we must use our voices and art to spark change and that sitting back and not doing everything we can is not acceptable anymore.
