Google’s AI videos get a big upgrade with Veo 3.1
Ars Technica: It's getting harder to know what's real on the Internet, and Google is not helping one bit with the announcement of Veo 3.1. The company's new video model supposedly offers better audio and realism, along with greater prompt accuracy. The updated video AI will be available throughout the Google ecosystem, including the Flow filmmaking tool, where the new model will unlock additional features. And if you're worried about the cost of conjuring all these AI videos, Google is also adding a "Fast" variant of Veo.

Maybe it’s just because I surround myself with generally anti-AI liberals (and also because I’m an art major), but who actually WANTS this? Like “ah yeah I’m tired of thinking I want the phone to do all the thinking for me” HELLO this is lowkey a dystopia. What’s crazy is that I feel like a lot of the generations older than gen z seem to like AI more than I do (for example, my mother, who used it to write a condolence letter once), which is odd for the generation who always brags about being able to send letters and read maps and walk uphill both ways to school through rain sleet and snow. On the other end of the spoon there’s the gen z who use AI freely for school (which, given, makes sense because school is much harder now than it used to be IMO.) Maybe high schools are right for making all the students give their phones up at the beginning of school every day (even with the con of safety during school shootings.) WHAT a world we live in!!
It honestly does not surprise me at this point when I see that AI are evolving and that google is not a company that would remove itself from the AI industry especially due to youtube being under its wing. From the videos in this article it looks like Googles Veo AI is very advanced, and now with the addition of stringer prompt adherence there will be more people who many reach to Veo to make more videos to post on the internet. On that note it is also no surprise that Google is pushing for Veo to be able to create vertical video formats for vertically presented videos on apps like youtube shorts and tik tok. As these are two of the more prominent social media based video watching services, and for the most parts all of these videos are presented vertically, and it would be a loss for Google if their AI could not create vides that can be presented in this format.
