How Deep Can A Ryobi Circular Saw Cut? Here's What You Need To Know

www.slashgear.com: yobi offers a number of power tools made for cutting a variety of materials. The company's line of circular saws are designed primarily to deliver straight-line cuts in wood products such as dimensional lumber, plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), and the like. Ryobi circular saws can cut through metal, although it's best to use a special saw blade and only cut through thin sheets or softer metal types.

Circular saws are honestly one of the most overlooked tools. Having a quality circular saw that can make a job so much easier and produce some extremely clean results. I am surprised to see that the smaller versions offered by Ryobi won't cut through a 2x4 with a 45 degree angle. This is actually crazy to me that this was okay to get pushed through the line. I would understand if the 5 ½” version lacked this ability but once you start stepping into the 6 1/2 “ range I would almost expect this feature to be available. As now we see farmers carrying around with them a 6 ½” circular saw everywhere they go on a jobsite. Now that I think about it, I never saw someone carrying a Ryobi Circular saw penalty of drill drivers or other tools but never a Circular saw. I think that lacking this ability really limits the tool in what most people are looking to get out of their Circular saws.

It's interesting to read about how deep these different circ saws can cut. It's not often, at least in our scene shop, to use a circ saw because we are already set up with our table saw and radial arm saw - plus multiple miter saws around the shop, wherever we need them. When we do need a circ saw, the deepest we usually cut is ¾” ply. I know that in the real world it's more common to cut dimensional lumber with a circ saw, especially because a table saw, chop saw, or radial arm saw aren’t portable. If you’re a framer or a roofer, you want a saw that you can carry around on the job site. I'm sure Ryobi thought about cutting through stick lumber when they designed these saws, and that's why all of their saws can cut through 2x4. Either way, I don't think anyone's trying to cut through 4x4s with a circ saw.

Ryobi circ saw aka MY BIGGEST OPP I HATE THESE. I learned how to use power tools at a high school that almost exclusively used Ryobi, so I’m not even a big hater. Most of the tools are fine EXCEPT for the circ saw. Also I fear this article is kind of pointless. Just do the math yourself/look on the website because it’s so easy to find/get better tools. Also I can’t believe the Ryobi circ saw isn’t listed on the 6 Ryobi tools you should avoid losing, because they SUCK. They vibrate so much which makes them super hard to control and the materials feel weird and the on-off switch is also weird! I’ve used it twice in my life and twice was too much. Get a better tool for your circ saw. I’m fine with most Ryobi things EXCEPT FOR THE CIRC SAW.
