Rhino in the Room for Robe

LightSoundJournal.com: Dutch for ‘rhinoceros’ – is a busy, buzzing and vibrant music venue in the heart of Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, complete with two halls, a cafe area that’s also used as a performance space, rehearsal rooms and studios, plus strong educational ties with local vocational college, Firda, which focuses on music, drama, theatre and the arts, running both technical and creative courses.

While I do not know a ton about light and sound I am super excited to learn. I definitely did not understand everything in this article but that just makes me more curious and gives me even more to look forward to when the light and sound mini comes along. What I did pick up is how it is really important to have the correct technology and up to date and functional technology to truly be able to produce work at a high level. I think it's really awesome that they are using their upgrades not only for their usual variety of performances and programs but also for teaching. The space seems like an incredibly cool and vibrant community hub and so it is great that they were able to update their technology to match that vibrancy.

I’ve never heard of a music venue that also functions as an educational building–educational live entertainment is usually confined to just theatre! It’s so cool that younger people can find jobs and training in such a diverse music venue with 2 halls and a cafe performance area. Are the educational opportunities only available to college students at Firda College, or can teenagers and adults not part of the college take advantage of the teaching? I’d love to see more pictures about what it looks like inside, and also what it looks like during performances when there are people filling the space. Admittedly I don’t know much about lights, but I think the problem-solving process that the team went through in order to work around a budget and replace faulty lights is interesting and sounds very difficult. I’d love to learn more about the finances of Neushoorn–ticket prices, production costs, salaries.
