Music Promoters No Profit Women-Only Concert Tours. Sarah McLachlan

www.hollywoodreporter.com: When Sarah McLachlan first hatched the idea for the 1990s women-only Lilith Fair tour, concert promoters openly questioned whether female singer-songwriters could perform back to back on a traveling festival bill and sell enough tickets.

It’s wild to think that there was a time when promoters thought that women only concerts was not a viable or option or playing women artists back-to-back on the radio was not a good idea. To dismiss over half the population as not a significant source of money or attendees. I’ve never attended Lilith Fair and to be honest I haven’t really attended many concerts in general, but Lilith sounds like a party and now I’m going to have to go find this documentary. The fact still remains though that women in business have and constantly have to fight the asinine sexist questions that the male gaze believes that everyone wants. I hope one day that these things will be truly a thing of the past. Some people may view it as leaving people out, but you can also spin it as choosing to market to a select group of individuals with the understanding that it’s always open to all, but you just might not be the targeted audience, so sit down, shut up, and enjoy the music.
