This production of Les Mis has been quite fascinating to me since I heard it was coming. It seems to me that they have taken the original musical and scale it up dramatically to the scale of an arena tour. I would be interested to see what the differences in audiences are between this concert production and the original musical are as it tours around, as the different setting, that being theatre vs. an arena (I’m aware Radio City isn’t an arena, but this is usually staged in an arena), to see if its tapping the same base or tapping a base that the musical typically cannot reach. It would also be interesting to see how the whole musical is restaged for the arena setting, as the large practical sets that are often the hallmark of Les Mis productions may not be possible within an arena-scale touring production. Perhaps it will rely on further video and lighting uses that are more typical of arena shows.
