Kennedy Center Turmoil Draws Spotlight on Live Nation’s Trump-Aligned Board Member
TicketNews: A free concert at the Kennedy Center by acclaimed guitarist Yasmin Williams has erupted into controversy, after a group of attendees allegedly booed and heckled her during the performance. Multiple reports indicate the disruption was tied to the D.C. chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans, who were invited to a meeting at the venue immediately following Williams’ September 18 set.

I can’t really say this is surprising given the current political situation in the United States. The Kennedy Center is already a shell of its former self, with the current administration having gutted most of its core, and now those who are performing there are entering hostile territory. Also, given the fact that the office of the president booked dozens of tickets and filled them with people from the group that would go on to boo Yazmin Williams is particularly indicative of what is really going on. The government is deliberately trying to push left-wing artists out of the Kennedy Center. I fear that this will get worse before it gets better, as we are still only in the first quarter of this presidency. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to check the administration’s power within the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, and other institutions, so hopefully they can weather the current storm.
