Is Broadway Going on Strike? What to Know Now

www.timeout.com/newyork: The curtain may be about to fall—off-stage. Broadway’s actors and stage managers are inching closer to a strike, a move that could dim the lights on 32 shows right as peak theater season kicks into gear.

This was really interesting and odd at the same time to read. I find it so weird that the Broadway League hasn’t boosted contributions to the Actor’s Equity Association health fund, those performances are not light work. Performers can get easily hurt when performing body demanding stunts or dance moves, and the fact that the league hasn’t boosted the fund in over a decade even though they know what actors have to do is hard is just confusing. I really agree with what Brooke Shields said about how it’s an investment to allow their business to grow. If Broadway League doesn’t have talented performers due to injuries, Broadway shows will slowly decline in ticket sales and lose its reputation for such captivating performances. When I was reading about Brooke Shields’ meniscus injury and how she had to dance on it, I found it crazy she had to be put through that because she couldn’t cover medical help.
