Immersive art exhibit reSOUND takes over Rockefeller Center in NYC
www.timeout.com/newyork: New York loves a spectacle—especially one that glows, hums and vibrates with enough sensory power to make Times Square look understated. Enter reSOUND New York, the latest immersive art experience to land at Rockefeller Center, transforming the iconic rink level into a labyrinth of light, sound and touch.

I love a good immersive experience, but from the photos I do not know if this one would be for me. The 3D characters that seem to float through the space look super interesting, and I like the idea of being in a room that seems to not have enough space for you. That seems like it would elicit a lot of different responses from viewers in a way that makes the space feel more real. However, the light exhibition seems to be very muddled and lacks a variety that I often look for in art. This also speaks to the overall design of the experience, with it being separated into 7 different rooms. With immersive experiences, this separation would likely remove the viewer from the experience each time they go to a new room. A way to improve this would be to find connections between the spaces, so that the resulting experience is continuous.
To be honest, I couldn’t quite tell whether I was super into this specific immersive experience until I read about it. The photos didn’t completely blow me away but, it seems like the reSOUND exhibit is largely focused on the sound and physical tactical feelings. I am really intrigued by the bench seat that vibrates with the sound waves. I also noticed that the word ‘pulsing’ and ‘rippling’ kept being used to describe the different rooms. I am very interested in seeing what kind of effect that has on the audience. I feel it could either be really trippy in a cool way or really trippy in a might make people sick way. I ended up clicking on the ticket link and was pleasantly surprised by the cost of tickets. I tend to think that immersive walk-through experiences/installations can be very easily overpriced but there are a lot of ticket options and all of them in the 10-20 dollar range.
