Damn, I’m one a roll this week when it comes to articles about unions. This is such good news in terms of workplace protections for production workers who work on TV commercials. I think commercials can be and are often some of the most overlooked sectors of entertainment. We have grown so accustomed to seeing them in our lives as we scroll past them on our phones or clicks the “skip ads” buttons when we watch videos that it is so easy to forget the work that goes into putting these pieces of media together. Although advertisements and commercials are often seen more as a nuisance that we tend to brush off doesn’t mean real people aren’t working hard to put these together. One of the protections the article mentioned that I would not have thought about was about lodging standards. I never would have considered not using someones room as a production space would be something need to be protected but I understand why it would be important, especially for workers mental wellbeing.
