“I Can Do All Things”: How One Church Technician Redefined Disability and Ministry

Church Production Magazine: Until 2015, Paul Frazier was living a relatively normal teenage existence. An 18-year-old with an interest in audio and IT thanks to his father’s work experience, Paul was not only actively working in the tech industry but also regularly involved at his home church, Mt. Vernon Church, a small congregation about an hour northeast of Charlotte, NC, helping his dad with the tech team.

This guy is awesome. I think this kind of attitude is what all professionals should aspire to. “Keep pushing until you can’t push any harder” is an honorable mantra for anyone, especially for someone with a physical disability like Paul. The accessibility options put forth in this article are smart and doable. I think a lot of proposed accessibility options are not accessible for a lot of organizations but with modern technology things like remote controlled systems on a tablet are eminently doable. Beyond that, the “it takes a village” mentality in the article is awesome. Productions are always a team effort, and it’s not that others need to pick up the slack of those with disabilities but that everyone has different abilities and capabilities and everyone in a team fills each others’ gaps. I think the attitude espoused in this article is key and should be what everyone, regardless of personal ability. If we all keep pushing until we can’t push any harder and push each other to be our best selves and cover the gaps in each others’ abilities we can all be our best selves and do our best work.
