How Many AI Artists Have Debuted on Billboard’s Charts?
www.billboard.com: In just the past few months, at least six AI or AI-assisted artists have debuted on various Billboard rankings. That figure could be higher, as it’s become increasingly difficult to tell who or what is powered by AI — and to what extent. Many of these charting projects, whose music spans every genre from gospel to rock to country, also arrive with anonymous or mysterious origins.

I think that this is a really scary thing that is popping up in the music; it is even scarier that we don’t know and that we can’t tell what is AI from a human. For me, art is something that comes from emotion and passion, something that AI can not comprehend. AI works on the basis of logic and data. AI does not have the comprehension of human emotion and passion. This not only removes emotion and passion from art, but this also takes away jobs from artists; it is leaving artists who have real talent, real passion, real emotion. These artist put their whole hearts and lives into their work, and for them to be erased to make room for computers is insulting, it is like slapping them in the face and telling them that their talent isn’t worth the time, that their emotions aren’t worth the time, their passion isn’t worth the time, that their lives aren’t of worth.
This article makes me sick to my stomach. Music is supposed to be one of the most raw expressions of human experience and emotion. It transcends language and so many boundaries and is meant to be human. Seeing AI used to make music and then it doing well actually disgusts me. AI is not human, it never will be and never should be. It can’t replicate what makes music so special. This music feels hallow and uninspired and I’m shocked it would even do well. This technology is going to kill humanity in more ways than one. It’s already begun to take away and chip at something essential to human expression, art and creativity. This is proof of it. I really hope that people start to use their brains and realize this. I know I’ve said it so many times, but I really cannot say enough how much I abhor AI.
I kept having to repeat in my head while reading this, “This is real. This is a REAL phenomenon.” This is absolutely terrifying and yet another signal of the depraved and unfortunate direction humanity is moving towards where AI art dominates even Billboard’s Charts. I do not believe that generative AI is completely negative in society, and I believe in the experts who can see a future where AI can help humanity in ethical ways, but I have to ask this question: WHY is AI taking over art instead? I think it comes down to two main reasons. One, the corruption of generative AI companies in unethical practices, and two, the unrestricted access given to anyone with internet access to use generative AI tools. In this case, something like music may seem harmless on the surface, but looking deeper it becomes apparent how devastating this is. AI music not only is unoriginal on premise alone, but also steals the spotlight from REAL human artists and shows how art has lost the meaning to many of being something that is inherently human. The more unrestricted AI gets, the worse our society gets, and I hope, with many unfortunate doubts, that this is put to an end soon before the bigger consequences are suffered.
