Engineer Ross Rothero-Bourge Captures The Loud With AUDIX
ProSoundWeb: UK-based drummer turned audio engineer Ross Rothero-Bourge, who most recently has been on tour with Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, led by Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell, deploys a range of AUDIX microphones in his work, including the D6 and D6X on kick and bass-centric sources, SCA25A as drum overheads, OM7 handheld as vocal mic of choice, and PDX720 and PDX520 as studio workhorses.

I have never thought too much about how a drummer might use or think about microphones. To me drums are too loud to need a microphone, which I do know is not true and is dependent on the venue and size, it feels crazy to me that there would be all these mics involved. But I think especially since he is an engineer as well it makes sense that this is pretty relevant to him. I don’t know a ton about sound but I do know a good bit about mics from being a singer. I think it is cool and informative the way he chooses different mics for different functions and makes me think broader about how mics can be used for multiple purposes. I appreciate the seemingly honest and good review of the specific mics that he prefers and how it seems they are so good that they can sway other people's preferences, it is handy to know.
