I immediately gravitated towards this article because I got to see these lights in action in Cuyahoga Falls! I vividly remember standing in the lawn with my dad between our sporadic walks around the venue admiring the design. The organic feel Stinebrink describes immediately comes back to me. I think it was the combination of curved fixtures and rigging, spinning gobos, and some gradual shifts in color that stuck out most to me. I also always enjoy when lights are synchronized with the rhythm of a song, and that they weren’t usually informed of their setlist until an hour before the show makes that even more impressive to me. I was really impressed by the decision to make the round trusses they rigged above the stage move during songs as well. It was not only technically complex, but completely changed how the audience viewed the lighting. I really appreciate getting to learn about this technology, because its impact on the performance really captivated me.

I was immediately drawn to this article when I saw the thumbnail. All the lighting design choices look amazing. I found it pretty unique that there are almost no straight lines of light and instead all looks are half-circles. I loved how their projection or video screen is surrounded by this huge half-circle archway, it makes the concert seem so grand or other-worldy in a way. I also found it really smart to line the trusses with the PULSE BARs. It illuminates the concert experience even more, but also it gives that other-worldly feeling as it looks as if it’s magically floating. It really is great to read about what goes into projects like these. I love knowing the specifics and also what the designers were thinking when putting this all together. I think it helps to understand what ways a person can be more creative especially when their studying this type of work.
