Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle-Led Revival of Proof Finds Its Broadway Home

Ayo Edibiri is so ridiculously talented. Ever since I saw her in ‘The Bear,’ I hoped that she would get the mainstream attention she deserved. While I am not too familiar with the work of Don Cheadle, there is no denying his pure talent and commitment to his roles. Proof itself also looks like a very interesting and compelling story– as someone that always wanted to see more plays on Broadway I’m glad we are getting more of that. In addition, I also really like when plays stick to a small cast with a strong dynamic. While I personally would struggle to direct a show with only two characters, I think that it is worth it purely based on the synopsis of the show I read. A father daughter connection is a really strong choice and a really interesting dynamic to explore. I really hope I get a chance to see this and I already know it's going to be an amazing show.
I am so incredibly deeply excited for this. I remember when I first read Proof in high school and fell in love with the script, as I had to do a scene of it in acting class. I love a good genius family drama madness story. Both Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle are fantastic actors with such a large range and depth that I am excited to see what they bring to this story. I desperately want to go see this show when it comes to Broadway and will be clawing for tickets. I am also excited to see Proof come to the stage outside of an academic setting and see what professional actors do with the material as I’ve yet to see it fully produced and realized yet. I do wonder why they are choosing to do a Proof revival now, but regardless, I will be seated ready to watch whatever they give.
This show looks super interesting to me and I would love to be able to see it. Ayo Edebri is such an insanely talented performer and such a good comedian. If you look at any thing she's ever been in, even when she's acting across from super talented other actors, your attention goes to her whenever she's on screen. Ayo Edebri is actually from Boston, the same city I grew up in, and she went to the high school I used to go to. She's a bit older than me so we didn't go there at the same time, but she got into theater because she started doing improv at that school, and had the same theater teacher I did for many years. Last year she came back and visited and talked at an event with the mayor at this school which was pretty cool, and a bunch of my friends got to meet her.
I'm really excited about this production. To be honest, I don't know a lot about proof as a play other than the basics synopsis, but I'm a really big fan of Ayo Edibiri. I think she's really talented at both comedic and dramatic acting, and I always feel very connected to the characters she plays because she plays them in a very real feeling way, if that makes any sense. They feel very heartfelt. I'm not sure in general how I feel about this trend about actors from film doing plays, as some of them have felt kind of exploitative in their ticket prices. However, since ticket prices haven't come out for this one yet, I'm going to say that I'm feeling tentative excitement. That being said, I hope that it's not a minimalist production. I feel like there are some certain plays in which minimalism works, but from what I know about this play, I feel like it needs to have a set that has things in it in order to make sense.
