Miami Art Week 2024: 10 Experiential Ideas Worth Stealing
www.eventmarketer.com: Every winter, more than 20 international art fairs come to life in Miami across 1,200-plus galleries, where the work of thousands of global artists is on display. In recent years, brand activations and events have also become essential to the upscale event’s ecosystem, and during Miami Art Week 2024 (Dec. 2-8), some new faces and fresh experiential tactics popped up. Here’s what caught our attention in Miami Beach.

This article really shows how big brands have kind of ruined Miami artweek. However all the other pieces listed are god awful ugly and hideous. I think its funny how shallow and obvious cash grabby these brands are. None of their art pieces or installations say anything other than sponsoring the product. Miami art week should be a city and community focused event, it should be a time to support and value local artists. The only piece from the list in this article i liked, (though i'm aware the week had so many more art pieces) was sol de janiero’s project. I personally found the ear shaped phone booths so fun and pretty. I generally love public art that looks like it was from another world or dimension. Adding color and vibrancy to public spaces through these phone booths, murals, or graffiti will always be something I find particularly awesome.
Honestly, these all look kind of gorgeous. I’m surprised by this, especially the Gucci snow globe, because personally, I think that Gucci and other fashion brands like that are usually pretty ugly with their designs. This is cool, but I am a little concerned by the fact that they’re all huge brands. I would love to see spotlights of smaller artists. The article says that these international art fairs in Miami (with 1,200-plus galleries) is “where the work of thousands of global artists is on display.” But I feel like we’re only really seeing brands here in this article that are largely driven by US consumers. I would love to see another article about Miami art week that focused on smaller artists and just more overall interesting and international based designs. Regardless, I am sure that this is a super fun fair to attend— although, at first I was a little surprised about “winter art fair” (that was quickly abated when I realized this was in Miami, though!).
The Gucci snow globe and its custom built locations inside of it are really cool! Looking at it, I'm strongly wondering if the parts used in it were laser cut? I've been taking a laser cutting class and we got a lecture about how in the professional word it can be really difficult to tell when things were laser cut because its the artists job to use that tool for its precision abilities without making it obvious that it was laser cut. This is unlike products sold specifically because of their novelty as laser cut items, which often have obvious markings of being laser cut like char on the edges.
