Life Finds A Way In Mixed Reality Wildlife Sanctuary Living Room

www.uploadvr.com: Developed by Thoughtfish, your job (should you accept it) involves cultivating life in a customizable terrarium full of cutesy critters. Alongside dressing up the different biomes, you must breed and feed flocks of creatures, managing the delicate balance of carnivores and omnivores to avoid total extinction.

As I first read the title, I instinctively thought that damn this is kind of sad to detach yourself further from reality. After further reading it does sound like a cute game. I don’t know the depth of the game or how the mechanics work, but it sounds like it could be a great tool to teach kids or adults the further intricacies of the balance of the natural world (even though it is just a simulation of a cartoon transformed reality). The ability to transform reality like this is a crazy opportunity. I remember watching videos of someone wearing a VR set and washing dishes while watching YouTube videos or playing the piano while seeing the notes sliding down to their fingers like the piano tiles smartphone app. My concern with this “update” to reality is that not everyone can rationalize their lives around these changes and lose their grip between reality and a mixed world.

After reading through the whole passage, it makes feel like it’s more like a VR game rather than what the title is describing “Life Finds A Way In Mixed Reality Wildlife”. It’s quite tricky to say, “Mixed Reality”. I personally think the VR technology like this and even some Video and Media Design is taking away people’s willingness to “Real” touch the grass time. During the work and study time, we have enough company from all kinds of electronic devices. Now, the software like this going to take up our leisure time too. I always feel like the real reality cannot be replaced by any levels of technology. But on the other side, I’m not saying ban the creation like this software. There are absolutely a lot of advantages and creative side we can learn from the design. The topic about how to balance the using virtual technology and remaining the reality of lifestyle is worthy to be discussed.

Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality are really interesting concepts that are still very new to the world. One of the big things to focus on is how to use these in an educational and effective way. I think this game does a great job of that. Just from the promo pictures I am intrigued. It offers a way for kids to be creative, and play, but it’s not just giving a kid an IPad and calling it a day. The equivalency that comes to mind is drawing on the walls with markers and crayons. Not only does it inspire creativity, but it includes problem solving as well. I think this game is a really good example of one of the “correct” ways we can use VR. We are benefitting from the medium being in VR, and it’s not just VR for the sake of being VR.
