A 'Game of Thrones' exhibit in NYC lets you touch Jaime Lannister's golden hand
www.timeout.com: This is a rare opportunity: Game of Thrones fans are invited to look through over 2,000 costumes, props and set decorations from the show now on display at Heritage Auctions at 445 Park Avenue by 57th Street.
I never watched Game of Thrones but it is super cool that they're putting on this exhibit. I love seeing things from shows and movie in the real world. One time, I got to visit an exhibit with all the costumes from Downtown Abbey which was super cool! It raises the question of what companies do with so many costumes once they're done with the show. If its a smaller show, maybe they could rent out the less valuable/famous costumes and make more money that way. My mom is a costume designer and maker for some theaters on Maui, and she recently had the idea that if a show commissions her to make costumes for them, then she will own the costumes and they will rent them from her. So, maybe companies could do the same? That might just be too much overhead for the money they'd be bringing in. On Maui scale, its way easier since everyone in the theater community knows each other and is very friendly, but in the big wide world, they'd probably have to chase down people not returning the costumes.
Game of thrones is one of my favorite tv shows that i've gotten into recently, everything is phenomenal from the stories the set everything was masterfully crafted. I Think this will be cool for many fans to acquire a piece of the show that they love. Game of thrones has always put a lot of details in the props they create and there is such a large amount of them so I’m not surprised they have enough for an auction. Fans would love having a piece of the show and owning something from this auction would certainly be a conversation piece. I also think this is a great way to raise money for tv show producing, selling off no longer used props is a way to maintain fan relations and get extra funds for future projects. I think more shows should do this as a way to get money especially if a show is massively popular like game of thrones, I could think of a couple shows that could do auctions right now and would rake in a lot of money. Also if I had to choose something from this auction, I’d choose the dragon hand, but Jaime’s hand is a close second for me
