This article points to some illuminating information about the effect strikes have had on the entertainment industry, first showing the power that strikes have when they’re successful, and second how strikes affect the entertainment industry and where the costs actually trickle down to the companies. First discussing the power of the strikes, it is clear that this strong and consistent fight during 2023 was successful as it genuinely put these companies in a position where they needed to bargain in order to be able to salvage what had already been lost, and yet still companies are reeling, demonstrating the necessity of the work being done. Second, from the information in this article, it appears that Framestore suffered much more than Marvel or Disney as a collective which means that even despite the hard work of those who were on strike, the effect it has may still not land solely or even majorly on the companies being striked against. As such, pressure may be best to come from both employees and those that work with these larger companies that people are going on strike against to provide the best results.
It is enlightening to know how strikes can affect many areas of the industry that people don’t consider. In my opinion it is important for companies to remember that they are made up of people with their own lives and needs. It is imperative that these companies assess how to better understand and serve those that do the work. If companies took time to listen to workers before conditions required strikes it would mitigate the damage felt by the whole community. Sometime the actions of big companies can affect others more than themselves and in my opinion they should think before acting because these smaller companies are more often than not providing services that greatly increase the quality of what they are putting out.
