I remember seeing a different article about the Bridgerton ball in Detroit a few days ago floating around the internet. I believe I actually laughed out loud when I read about the absurdity of the horrid planning and execution. But beyond being something to laugh at, I think it’s a good lesson to keep in mind as I enter the theatre industry. If the audience is let down and does not feel fulfilled by watching a production, they rarely give the same theatre company or related productions a second chance. They spread their disappointment through word of mouth, potentially doing permanent damage to the reputation of the people involved in the production. It’s a reminder for me to be thorough, thoughtful, detailed, and observant in my work as a theatre artist. My career and reputation are going to depend on my ability to organize, plan, and execute an idea effectively.
