McCarter presents Carol Heikkinen and Zoe…
Broad Street Review: The 1995 cult classic movie Empire Records remains one of my absolute favorite films—basically The Breakfast Club for the slacker generation. Now you can catch the world-premiere musical at Princeton’s McCarter Theatre Center, onstage through October 6, 2024.

After seeing this I’m excited for the stage production, I’ve never seen the original movie so I think this a good way for me to finally be acquainted with the story. It seems that they are trying to remain faithful to the original source material(which is good, too many musicals become bad when they stray too far away from the original source material). I also appreciate that they hired the original film writer to write the musical's book. I also think it's better for a production to incorporate the original author. From what i've seen it looks very visually appealing the sets and costumes look good(great job designers!). I’ve also always wondered how movies are translated into stage performances, how do the sets change, is the sound design different, how do they take account the lighting. It’s interesting to see how the designers adjust for things to be translated for the big screen and at the same time assure it’s even more grand. I can see they are going for a production with a grand scale(they’re budget must be good enough if they’re able to accomplish this much with the visuals) i would love to see it if i ever have the opportunity to
