Review Roundup: Jez Butterworth's THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA Opens on Broadway
www.broadwayworld.com: The New York premiere of Jez Butterworth’s new play The Hills of California, directed by Sam Mendes, opened on Broadway tonight, Sunday, September 29th at the Broadhurst Theatre following a limited engagement at the Harold Pinter Theatre on the West End earlier this year.

Even though I'm from New York, I'm really not the type to just go out and see every new Broadway show that comes to the city. 1) because that's so expensive, and 2) because not all of them really seem that interesting to me, “The Hills of California” being one of them. While it seems from the reviews to be thought-provoking and emotional, I feel like it's just boring from what I've read; it seems too long, and I feel like it would be that type of show that has plot holes and is just a snoozefest. Genuinely, I can’t stand when a play drags on without enough happening to keep my interest. I also wonder if the characters are as engaging as they should be since some reviews say they lack depth. I get that it’s trying to explore heavy themes, but if the pacing is off and the characters aren't fully fleshed out, it might just leave me feeling bored, and that's just money wasted at the end of the day. When I go home for my breaks, I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a show I will be seeing.
