National Endowment for the Arts Announces More than $12 Million in Grants to Expand Access to Arts Participation in Communities Nationwide

National Endowment for the Arts: The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is pleased to announce 112 organizations recommended for awards under ArtsHERE—a new pilot program in partnership with South Arts and in collaboration with the other five U.S. Regional Arts Organizations—designed to expand access to arts participation across the nation.

Artists need funding but it always seems that the communities that need the funding most never get it. So seeing the NEA work to provide opportunities to organizations that lack a financial backing is going to allow America to diversify and provide better art to the American people. It will help in this weird transition period America is going through to allow us artists to tell the stories we feel need to be told. And most of the time these stories are replaced by other Shakespeare productions of Hamlet because we as theatrical artis know that the show will get butts in seats. But the ultimate purpose of art is to provide a story to the culture and audiences we are sharing it with so how many more productions of Shakespeare can we do? What about promoting the cultural heritage of Native Americans and the influence these stories have on the American Identity. This is definitely an exciting opportunity for federal funding to go to the communities usually forgotten about. It is amazing and really excites me for the future of art and arts organizations in America.
