The last S.F. Fringe Festival is going out with a bang and a rumpus

Datebook: High on the walls of the Exit Theatre’s cafe, multiple posters advertising past San Francisco Fringe Festivals bear the same motto: “No risk, no art.” The font has the stamped-on style of a renegade outfit branding its supplies before heading into battle.

I think it's a shame that the Exit Theatre has to close, for financial reasons over anything. The article doesn't say if the San Francisco Fringe Festivals will be held elsewhere or if the festival will close with the theater, but I hope the former is the case. I can only imagine that, having held the festival in the same place for so long, a closure would have a significant impact on the art community there. The Fringe Festival itself is new to me, but it seems like a really creative and unique concept, and if nothing else a great way to bring the community together and to give smaller artists a chance to have their voice heard. In my opinion, that's the most important aspect of theater - to give everybody an opportunity to share their ideas - and I hope that the artistic community in San Francisco is able to find another outlet to replace this one.
