I am so looking forward to this upcoming Broadway season, especially since it’s one of the first seasons really back to “normal.” I am particularly fascinated by Leopoldstadt. The scenic and costume design of this production looks absolutely beautiful, and I would see it just for that. The chandelier and rug, and the fact that it feels like a full open room is so jarring. But on top of that, as a Jew, I am automatically intrigued by the subject matter. I feel like there is something about the Jewish experience that lends itself extremely well to theatre - and it may be hard to truly put a finger on it. Especially because the play is personal, and Stoppard’s grandparents died in concentration camps, I would imagine that this piece is particularly emotionally raw. The concept of the show seems very thought-provoking. Apparently, the show spans 50 years in 2 hours, and I am interested to see how the design invokes this.
