3 Schools in Atlanta and Cincinnati Receive $10,000 Racial Equity Grants From Educational Theatre Foundation
Playbill: The Educational Theatre Foundation has selected three schools to participate in the second-year pilot phase of its Pathway program, designed to support racial equity through school theatre. Atlanta, Georgia's Maynard Jackson High School plus School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) and Winton Woods High School, both in Cincinnati, Ohio, will receive $10,000 grants as part of their work with the program.

The Educational Theatre Foundation has always done great work, and it is great to see them working hard to give funding to schools that are going to struggle the most to keep their arts programs well funded. If we want the world to have incredible young, diverse artists, their schools need to have their arts programs funded and the Educational Theatre Foundation is clearly attempting to do just that. It is also great that they were able to meet with mentors who look like them and build relationships in the industry. These are the types of experiences that are often only available to high income students, so this kind of program is invaluable to these kids. When I was on tour in early 2020, it was clear which schools had good programs and which schools simply did not have funding they needed due to the location and population of the schools. While this program is not able to solve the issue of this sort of inequality completely, ETF is clearly making an effort that will make a difference to these students.
