Designing Cinematic Style Sound Effects with Gravity
SoundGirls.org: Today I’m going to be discussing a virtual instrument called Gravity by the folks at Heavyocity. It’s loaded into and powered by Kontakt Engine by Native Instruments. While Gravity itself doesn’t have a free version available, Kontakt is available as both a free version and full version. Gravity is an incredible, extensively customizable virtual instrument designed predominantly for use in modern scoring.

Over the summer of 2020 I learned a bit of Audacity as I was obsessed with old timey radio shows and podcasts at the time and that is what Gravity reminds me of. Especially with the interactive keyboard that makes the software way more accessible to people like me who only do this sort of thing casually or who are just learning and don’t have MIDI Boards. Seriously though this reminds me a lot of the videos documenting how the foley artist for StarWars created the sound of lightsabers and blasters and the like. It also just looks fairly accessible to newbies with a great design and wonderful UI which helps for memorization. It is especially impressive when you take into account just how customizable it is at the same time as being understandable. I am definitely a layman in this industry and I have interesting ideas on how to use this, I can only imagine how incredible this must be for someone who knows what they are doing.
