Sexy Vegas revue shows—and their audiences—continue evolving
Las Vegas Weekly: Many couples will celebrate Valentine’s Day in Las Vegas at a sexy, revue-style show where the entertainers wear very little and interact with the audience quite a bit. If that demographic comes as a surprise, you haven’t been to one of these shows. Couples often make up the majority of the audience at topless female revues, while male revues typically see several partners mixed among their primary audience—groups of women.

This article was very interesting for me because recently in one of my classes (MT History) we have been talking about the origins of burlesque and the revue of genre and vaudeville. This article brought about the changing classifications of what makes a “showgirl” and what audiences want from these shows. One major difference from the original shows and now is that these “showgirls” are no longer, strictly girls. We now have shows like Thunder (from Down Under) which focuses on male performers. Although there are many show-goers that want to experience this “classic Vegas”, audiences have shifted and therefore what they want to see on a stage has also changed - which is why you can choose to go to a show that best fits your needs. I appreciate that these show directors and owners are constantly trying to change with the times so that these shows can retain their reputation, and keep people coming back.
