In the world that we live in today, it is so important that events like the 2020 World Summit are put on in order to open the door to important discussions surrounding the topics of corruption, autocracy, sexism, climate change, harassment, and so on. In this entertainment industry, I feel that it is so important that these topics are put at the forefront because they are still extremely relevant. Some of the topics that I find to be very interesting and important involve male predators, systemic misogyny, violence against women, and so on. One example that is currently in the news right now is the Harvey Weinstein trails are occurring. The testimonies of these extremely brave women make me feel sick to my stomach, however, it needs to be told. These are real problems that are happening right now. However, when women are vocal and take it upon themselves to demand change, so much more gets accomplished.
Even though it is 2020, there are still many negative stereotypes that put women as less than what they are. This is very frustrating that people still believe a woman can't do what men can't. I am happy to hear that there are conventions like this, supporting and creating safe discussions among women, but if the world wasn't this way towards others today (and with my limited knowledge of this convention), there would be no need for the Women in the World Summit. However, this Summit still sounds amazing to attend. With such talented writers and people overall such as Phoebe Waller-Bridge, this Summit is going to be very interesting just getting to hear from the minds of smart and powerful women. I do hope their talks about dealing with male predators will be insightful and end up helping as many as it can. This is really something that shouldn't happen at all, but since it does, I am glad to hear women are working against it as best they can by coming together to fight against those who may oppose them.
