A Hometown Exhibition Will Showcase August Wilson’s Process

The New York Times: Great playwrights are often eclipsed by their work and the actors who give voice to it, but a coming exhibition dedicated to August Wilson will focus on the man behind the words. The August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburgh announced on Tuesday that this fall it would open “August Wilson: A Writer’s Landscape,” a permanent show about the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright’s life, creative process and legacy.

Living in Pittsburgh, it is so exciting to be in the hometown of iconic people such as August Wilson. This exhibit is so cool, and I think it is so exciting that this exhibit is expanding on August Wilson as a person and the way he chose to live his life, in addition to his iconic work. I love the idea of having an area to recreate August's desk, as a person's workspace can showcase so much of their personality. The exhibit also works to tie together his plays by incorporating videos, props, and costumes from notable productions, in order to ties in the fact that the plays "didn't come out of nowhere", as they were largely based off od the experience of both August and his ancestors. The article ends with the statement that this exhibition will be one that is constantly growing as August's legacy continues to expand.
