Your Nonprofit is “Committed to Diversity”? How Diverse Is Your Board?

Bitter Gertrude: “People ask me sometimes, when do you think it will it be enough? When will there be enough women on the court? And my answer is when there are nine.” — Ruth Bader Ginsberg

Few consider it odd that almost all Supreme Court justices in the court’s 229 year history have been white men, but many considered Justice Ginsberg’s statement to be highly controversial. The idea of an all-female court seemed upsetting and threatening to many people, but an all-male court has always seemed unremarkable.

In this article it is talking about how Ruth said there will only be enough female justices in the Supreme Court when there are nine. For some reason many people are threatened by this comment, while whenever the nine justices were men they didn't blink an eye. I believe this is a very clear view of sexism. The only reason why people are afraid of women in the Supreme Court is their gender. I also find it disgusting how people view a group as diverse whenever they have one or two women or men of color along with mainly white males. I believe that a group is not truly diverse until there is an equal amount of minorities and white males. This comes into huge effect whenever the primary white male board votes a head of the organization which has huge power over the distribution of money. Due to the lack of diversity in the board the person that would help minorities would most likely not get elected.
