This article proved to be an interesting read, even though we have seen stories like this be told time and time again over the past couple of months. Most articles that come out in exposing someone for sexual harassment or assault often expose people who have something to do with the film and television industry, and not in the classical music circle. The most interesting thing about this article though was not who the article was focused on but why the conductor, James Levine felt the need to sue the Met. As quoted in the article, Levine feels the need to sue because money is needed, "to restore Levine’s name, reputation and career". I am not sure how exactly $5.8 million will restore any sort of image of a sexual harasser, and I think that this statement is even more of a reason legal action should not be taken against the Met but instead against Levine himself. This story is just another story of toxic masculinity and a terrible ego, but does show another aspect in the discussion of sexual assault that has been going on for . while now.
