NFTRW Weekly Top Five

Here are the top five comment generating posts of the last two weeks:

Should You Hire “Old” People?

Remodelers Advantage: I was interacting with a younger contractor about his search for an estimator.

Here is what the contractor wrote to me:

I wanted to get your opinion on a quick question. How much weight should I be placing on age when looking at potential candidates for the Estimator?

What Went Wrong With the Spider-Man Musical

WIRED: It’s too bad Glen Berger doesn’t have spidey sense; it would have warned him to run away. But in 2005, when Berger was hired to work on a Broadway musical adaptation of Spider-Man, it seemed like a dream come true for the well-respected but financially struggling playwright. In the wake of the Spider-Man films, a musical version seemed like a surefire hit, especially given the director (Julie Taymor of The Lion King fame) and composers (Bono and Edge of U2). Everyone involved thought the show would be brilliant.

Broadway Goes Green on February 4

The BroadwayBlog: Kermit the Frog used to sing, “It’s not that easy being green.” He must have lived in New York City, where it can be a challenge to responsibly dispose of electronics. Fortunately, the Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) is sponsoring an E-waste drive for the theater industry and fans on Wednesday, February 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gershwin Theatre Breezeway at 222 West 51st Street

A Leatherman Bracelet Puts 25 Tools On Your Wrist

gizmodo.com: Multitools are fabulously useful, unless you do not have yours handy when you need it. It doesn't matter how many gadgets you cram into an all-in-one, if it is being a really efficient use of space on your nightstand. Frustrating. A wearable multitool you never take off, though, yeah, that sounds promising.

Watch Four Disney Artists Paint One Tree

MAKE: As parts of Walt Disney’s creations come out of the vault, some kind souls have taken it upon themselves to upload some old goodies on YouTube for our enjoyment. Four Artists Paint One Tree is an interesting documentary that surfaces ideas about art, style, and collaboration. In some ways, you can see the art studio of Walt Disney as a Open Source artistic culture where a plethora of artists come together to create each scene.

Okay this is so cool, I mean SO COOL. I don't have a leatherman or other multi tool and I have quickly come to realize what a pain it is to go with out one. They are useful for everything! But I will admit i see short comings when i borrow my friends tools: left handed people lose out, the tools are a bit clumsy when trying to be used left handedly; it hurts sometimes, they can be bulky and hard to open, not to mention the constant fear of pinched fingers! The wristband not only solves the forgetting it issue but also the handedness and pinching and other problems. It does seem to lose a few tools though, such as the pliers but I guess we'll wait till June to see how it goes.

In regards to "What Went Wrong with Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark?":
I think it's hilarious this show is still being attacked, or even addressed, this late in the game. The musical has fallen completely by the wayside in the past few years, so what's the relevancy? That aside, however, I'm pleased to see the author acknowledge that the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was enjoyed by many people. I saw it myself back when it was in its preview days, and I had a very pleasurable time being in the audience. Granted, I enjoy just about every show I ever see regardless of quality, but the story was interesting and there were many redeemable qualities. I'm happy to see that some light is being shed on the good parts of the production. Often times once shows are deemed unworthy, no one can break out of that opinion.
