Variety: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will launch a campaign on Saturday called “Greenlight Hollywood” to pitch the state’s expanded incentive program on studio chiefs and producers who give the go ahead to major projects.
Garcetti plans to make the announcement at a pre-Oscar Academy symposium on makeup and hairstyling.

This is interesting, as it seems to be the other side of another article that was posted this week. Though I am for the production of film ad television outside of Hollywood, I think that this program is also beneficial to film production. I like this for the same reason I like the other article, it is good to see cities wanting to make it easy for people to film there. It’s clearly in response to the fact that other locations increasingly seem to be more appealing than LA for various reasons, and it is important that LA notes that film production is central to their identity as a city, and tries very hard not to lose that aspect. I personally do not think they will, and this campaign can’t hurt LA’s film industry. In the end, my opinion is that it’s wonderful that LA can benefit so much rom being the tv/movie capital of the world, but it is also wonderful when other cities get to shine in that same light for a little while. It doesn’t have to be a competition, the ultimate goal should be making the best movie you can, and wherever the shoot needs to happen for that should be reasonably available.
