What I have learned the most effective motivation tool is rather than started with the what the event you want people to volunteer for is, start with the why. People get so bogged down by what they are being asked to volunteer for they often don't want to be bother by it. They see it as a chore. When people start with the why you want people to volunteer for you people tend to be more inclined in helping out because provided it aligns with their personal value or is phrased to align with their personal values, it starts to become something they themselves want to do. Humans are selfish creatures and only want to do things that matter to their own lives so when taping into this fact results are always more successful. The biggest challenge with starting with the why is that the why tends to be more abstract. The what of any event is always easiest to start with and so often the default because it is more concrete.
