'For God Sakes:' Jack White responds to contract rider coverage

OUDaily.com: Life & Arts: Jack White responded to coverage surrounding The Daily's publication of his contract rider, which included a guacamole recipe along with other hospitality requests. In a Feb. 15 blog post on the Third Man Records website, White explains what his contract rider is for, the origins of the viral guacamole recipe (spoiler alert: White can't make Kool-Aid, much less guacamole) and what happened at the concert at OU.

After having read the original NPR article as well as the response, I think this whole situation is just a mess of communication. If you're an artist, you are allowed to make as many demands as you want. Obviously, you could be written up in the news as a diva, but that's your choice to make. However, I feel like there was a bit of privacy violation going on here and I also think Jack White made a mistake responding, simply because he came off looking more like a diva than the media even made him out to be in the first place.

It seems as if there should be a larger lockdown on rider's from now on, from any artist, if anyone takes home the lesson learned here. However, from the artists perspective, when you're dealing with a large touring crew, certain guidelines have to be outlined, even down to food preferences. Also, NPR seems to be leaving out the fact that the artists are the ones that are out on stage every night and drawing in the most ticket sales, beyond publicity and management in most cases. If the artist has worked their way up to the point that they have the money to make the demands, why are we patronizing them? If you have managed to penetrate the glass bubble of celebrity, who's to say you don't deserve the finest guacamole? Haters gonna hate.
