This is neat because a lot of the tips mentioned for engaging an audience are absolutely relevant to pretty much all forms of performance, not just fire performance. It wasn’t clear in the article whether they were talking about performing on the street, in a circus-type thing, onstage… I’d be interested in knowing how much their craft differs based on the location and circumstances, since I imagine it requires involving the audience in different ways. This seems like it might be similar to the way actors need to alter their performance style depending on whether they’re performing in a big or intimate house, or on film. The “danger” factor mentioned in the article is something that we run up against in theater sometimes when there are special effects such as flying involved. It’s definitely a powerful tool to connect with the audience, and I can see why it’s such an important thing to take into account when doing fire performance.
