TribLIVE: Through 100 years and countless changes to the community, one building on Penn Avenue has stood as an outlet for the arts.
The Regent Theatre dates back to 1914, when silent films were the main attraction. Known today as the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, the space remains a performance-arts center, hosting classes, workshops, shows and festivals for everyone in and around East Liberty.

A piece of history that is still there and sounds like it thriving, for the most part. I understand that it has closed a few times and then reopened but 100 years and still roughly in the same business that it began in was awesome. Entertainment for most of a 100 years and seen a lot. These type of events and really good for community building around the area. Coming back with family and remember the time of long ago when… It is something to be remember and appreciated. I really hope the even goes well and thing move forward in a positive light for the theatre. That it is able to entertain audiences for another 100 years. We shall hope because in a 100 years I will most like not be in Pittsburgh any more.
